When does authorize.net process credit card

When does authorize.net process a credit card transaction. My customer was set up on Bluepay, and the transaction was processed on ordering. Now it appears that they have to hand process when item is shipped. I feel I am missing something obvious in the documentation..

1. Can it be set up to process automatically when item is shipped?
   
2. Where is the setting to process when ordered? Is it on the authorize.net website?

In osCommerce there is two available options, to authorize the transaction, or to process the transaction. Authorize would just hold the funds until you manually approve the transaction which then charges the customers credit card and process which means it would charge the customers credit card at the time of checkout.

 

Those are the only two settings that I can think of.
