Firebug, I think what is confusing you is that there are 2 configure.php files. Have you changed BOTH to 644? One file is in catalog/includes & the other in admin/includes. If you only change the setting on one of them, you'll continue to get an error message.

No ideas here but I am having the same problem. I have it set to 644 and I still get the pink message...

if you find out let me know and I shall do the same for you!

okay did a complete reinstall of the whole system wiped my sql databases and everything.

still getting the same problem..I have another site up using this as well and have never had that problem.

the only difference between the two sites is one secure site is at name.secu.net and the other is at name.secu.net/foldername

however I don't think that has anything to do with it because I don't even have it up at the secure site yet and am still getting the problem.

It goes away if I chmod the admin file to 644 and the catalog one to 444...is there a problem with leaving the admin one at 444??

Set the file's attributes to "read only"

i turned off the part of the script that checks for the error. My isp uses a newer ver of PHP i think this is causing the problem. They have guaranteed me that the files are set to read only. This may be a bug

It's not a bug in osCommerce.

Try chown-ing (change ownership) the file, might be your webserver OWNS it, so it doesn't matter what permissions you set, it will stay writable.

I sincerely hope your ISP isn't running the webserver as root by the way.

So if your webserver runs as user NOBODY in group NOBODY try

chown yourname.yourgroup configure.php
