Password reminder email not being sent?

Acknowledeged74

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just testing some elements of our Os commerce site and for members who have forgotten their password, when choosing 'Forgotten Password Click Here' and fill in the correct email, naturally the reminder should be sent, but they are not?

After submitting the email address you are shownthe message, ' Success: A new password has been sent to your e-mail address. ' but no email is received. Yes I've checked spam.

Any advice or ways to check this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ash

Actually I thought they were, I've just signed up for a new test account and no email has been recieved to confirm, argggggggg.

I'm pretty sure emails are sent when a pruchase is made, I've definitely checked that fairly recently.

Why is it not working for membership?

Frustrating isn't it?!

I wish I had an answer for you.

Have you attempted to send emails to more than one email address? Have you tried an email address outside of your domain for example a hotmail or a yahoo?

With web-based forms there's not a whole lot that can go wrong and I suspect that it's not necessarily down to the OS Commerce installation and more to do with how your web server handles email.

It may be worth raising a ticket with your web-space provider.

Sorry I can't be more help :(

Its a yahoo account I'm trying to send to. As I say the purchase emails are working its the account settup and reminders that aren't working, so pretty sure its a OSC issue, particularly as looking on Google this seems to come up alot?

If you are on a shared host then this might be the problem:

some server admins are putting restrictions on how many emails are sending out from your account. i had signed up before with one server that allows only 20 emails to be sent out per hour... so that will driving you crazy because sometimes your email notification will work and sometimes not. try to submit one ticket to your server admin.

How about checking whether it's the OSComm installation or mailserver issue?

Upload a generic contact form like this one http://phpeasystep.com/phptu/8.html - It's the first example that I found with a quick Google their are LOADS more examples!

Try it out in the browser and see if you receive an email. If you do then it confirms that you have an OScommerce problem, if not then I would assume an issue with whoever is hosting the mailserver :)

OK so I've tried sending an email directly through >Tools > Send Email which worked fine, well I say fine I only put in 'Hi' and I got the message

--=_b19ab3a0936d08eb315b8fa0e05bb0da

Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8"

Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Hi

--=_b19ab3a0936d08eb315b8fa0e05bb0da

Content-Type: text/html; charset="utf-8"

Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

I've checked with my Host and they agree its the actual website, so a coding issue somewhere?

I went into Configuration > Email Options and 'Send Emails' value is false? I've just tried this as true, but when I tried to request a forgotten password I got the error message;

Warning: require_once(includes/classes/class.phpmailer.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/palmers/public_html/includes/classes/email.php on line 531

Can anyone take the time to help me with this, I'm clearly not an expert, but the site isn't working as it should do.

Hello

Have you checked the spam bin?

With sendmail if thats what you are using most mails will end there.

Your error (above) is asking for a non standard osC file /class.phpmailer.php and line 531 in standard osc email.php is a list of comments, so cani assume you ar eusing a mod, or template?

OK copy and pasted the new code, and tried to request a password reminder, no luck I'm afraid. I did just send an email from the 'Send Email' option, which came though this time without the

Wow thanks for taking the time..

E-Mail Linefeeds LF

Use MIME HTML When Sending Emails false

Verify E-Mail Addresses Through DNS false

E-Mail Transport Method smtp

Send E-Mails false

The email address under 'My Store' is the correct email we are using for this business, under the same hosting as the website.

As I have said earlier if you goto Tools > Send Email this is recieved and says its from the correct email account. So that work as it should.

Purchases are registered in the admin area, payment taken, simply the admin will not AUTOMATICALLY send emails to customer, when the setup an account, or purchase an item.

No Problem Ashley,

I notice you have set to SMTP, which is OK as long as your details are in the PHP.ini file if not it can cause problems wiht mails not being sent.

Admin emails use different but identical file thatare held in the admin folder, catalog are sent from the same files in the catalog side, and both use their own identical functions tep_mail () to send as set in the includes / functions / general.php file.

Can you attempt to try using sendmail and see if it sends?

Also on your CPanel, web mail , default, are there any in the with a not send message?

Finally for now your error logs might also indicate something, but i would first try sendmail, it will prob go to spam so look there too.
