Implementing SSL

You have to purchase an SSL certificate and install it. Verisign is well know but very expensive. I used http://www.ebizid.com but there are plenty more out there if you look for them. They come with instructions on how to install. Good luck

SSL to me is crazy. I have had major problems with trying to get SSL sorted out. You buy a certificate, which is effectively a big number, your public key. Please correct me if i am wrong, but to me this seems weird paying money for a number.

You need a web hosting account that supports your own SSL certificate, or if you are doing it yourself, install an SSL module on your apache server. I opted to use a shared SSL server, which alot of web hosting packages offer. You basically get https://www.someones-domain-name.com/~your-username/... or something like that. Alot simpler. Stick all your webpages onto that server and alter the SSL path in oscommerce's configure.php.

I agree 100% with ya! While I can find endless lists of posts containing some ssl issue or another, I've yet to find installation directions for osc when it comes to your own certificate or a shared one.

I'm on a host with a shared certificate but have found nothing precise to indicate how to get osc going under such an arrangement.
