Here's a few ideas. Join some public forums in a field that relates to the products you sell. Say, if you sell pet supplies, join some pet forums. Once a day spend about ten minutes making and replying to posts with relevant information, such as dog grooming methods. Put your URL in your signature. People who are interested will click on your link. And your posts will be there long after you walk away from the computer.

Do the same thing in Usenet newsgroups. Post information to the appropriate newsgroups, and include your URL in your signature. (Hint: spell out any email addresses in your posts, such as fred AT msn DOT com instead of [email protected]. It keeps email bots from harvesting your email address.)

Keep a copy of these posts. When you get enough of them you can start recycling your posts. If you're not a good writer or don't have the time, there are places you can buy reports to post for very cheap on the web. Let me know what you sell on your site and I'll send you some if I have any that relates to your products. I have thousands.

Join some FFA's. FFA's are free links on other people's site back to your site. This not only provides free advertising, but it also helps your rank on search engines, since one of the criteria is how many sites link to your site.

Make an ebook about something that relates to your product. Ebooks are html pages that are compressed with a simple viewer included. There are freeware and shareware programs that make ebooks. Get a simple WYSIWYG web page creator and create HTML pages about a subject that relates to your product. This is another good use for cheap reports. Copy the words, throw in a few graphics, and run the ebook creator to make the book. Very easy. Add some advertising about your site, and include your URL as a clickable link in several places in the book.

Package the ebook in a zip file along with a .txt message stating that you have personally examined each ebook and certify that they are free from viruses, trojans and spyware. Include your email address and a few links for freeware and shareware anti-virus programs and spyware removers. That's usually enough to assure people. Give the ebook a catchy title. Don't say "How To Cut Your Dog's Hair", say "Grooming Techniques for Championship Dogs". You get the idea.

Spend an hour or two making a few ebooks. After that, you can just copy them. Eventually you could have hundreds of thousand of your ebooks floating around the internet, with your clickable URL in it, and they never wear out.

Offer the ebook free on your site. Put a link to it in your signature. There are hundreds of sites on the internet that will accept free ebooks and will put them in the proper catagory to be downloaded. Include a link to it when you send an email to customers. Any place you can think to put it, put it.

Think about starting an affiliate program. Lots of other people can advertise your site for a small commission. I think osCommerce has a mod for that.

Overall these ideas cost little to nothing. That's a good price.
