Differences between v2.2 RC2a and v2.3x?

Hey all,

My site is running fine and dandy in 2.2. I cant really find a good run down of the diffrences between the versions or why I SHOULD upgrade. My site is pretty highly customized but I did also make quite a few mistakes when I first setup a few years back so a fresh install will probably be my best option then just adding things back in that I really need.

I do have a couple thousand products so some kind of easy DB populate would be essential.

Can someone point me to some kind of version comparison if one exists?

Thanks!

Chris

p.s. on a side note any idea when v3 will be gold?

Christopher,

You can read the change log in the v2.3.1 download and v3.x ???? I wouldn't wait for it.......late 2012, early 2013 is my guess.

He didn't ask about 3.x; he asked about 2.2RC2a vs 2.3.1. The usual answer is, "if your shop is running fine, and you've installed the various security updates, and you've taken care of PHP 5/PHP 5.3/MySQL 5 server upgrades, leave it alone."

If you decide you want to upgrade to 2.3.1 after all (don't even think about 3.0.x), it should be possible to migrate your current database to the new shop. The biggest problem will be finding your favorite contributions upgraded to 2.3.1.

I know what he said......and I answered correctly, perhaps you should read my response again Phil.

thanks guys :) will take a peek at it. its running fine and dandy for now so I prolly wont mess with it. I do have all the appropriate security changes made, Iread through that thing a doaen times when I first setup and I check in on occassion (every couple months) to make sure nothing new pops up.

Thanks!

This was posted by another member when i had the same question.

More bug fixes. Built-in Fancybox images on the product page. Built-in large images. jQuery UI Themes. Modular column boxes, header tags, etc. Probably a bunch more I've forgotten.

If there are some specific Addons you need, check for availability in the Addons section. Most of the Addons for 2.2 have been updated already or can easily be updated yourself.

Jim

What i liked about 2.2 was the amount of contributions specially for non real clued up fella like me in php and css etc going onto learning this next year till then lotsa thing are very vague - but thanks to forum members helping

Ari,

many of the 2.2 contributions will work with 2.3.1 with only minor alterations.

(Let's see if I can get this posted before the board crashes again)

OK, it looks like there's enough blame to go around. I read the title and that apparently influenced my missing the last line postscript asking about v3.x. My bad. Re-reading your post, I think it could have been written a little more clearly -- it was two things run together ("read the 2.3.1 change log" and "regarding 3.x, don't bother waiting") not "read the 2.3.1 and the 3.0.2 change logs" (missing a comma, or even better, a semicolon).

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all!
