Folks!

More and more often I get requests to review e-commerce.

As osCommerce dedicated user, I recommend it. I feel sorry to hear that many folks try latest (what they think) version 3., it did not work for them, and they go Zen cart.

I got a comment last Saturday, "If they are irresponsible to the degree, they do not care of people who take 3.xx as final, why should I trust them at all?"

Questions:

What should I tell the audience, why version 3 is on the main page of the website, confusing newbies?

When version 3 is planned to be final?

Please suggest!

Thank you!

Merry Christmas

MANY requests have been sent to the core development team to mark v3.0.2 as a BETA or Developers release, but for some reason, they have not and will not mark it as such.

When version 3 is planned to be final?

To the best of my knowledge there is NO definite date set for a final release. There are milestone releases forthcoming but even they will only be Beta releases.

So, best thing to do is tell your 'friends', use v2.3.1 and refer to this forum for any questions they have about osCommerce.

Chris, they are not "friends", just the audience.

I think, you know, among 30 listeners you can always find one "smart a$$" and his comment, partially true, can kill all 30 minutes of your endorsements.

Seems, placement of 3.xx as main download is the WORST strategic mistake by oscommerce...

Too sad...

I agree, as do many others on this forum, but only the forum owner / moderator can change the status of the downloads. The rest of us must respond to questions like yours and try to guide those lost members who believe v3.x is usable.

I guess this has reasons ... important reasons for the forum owner. Maybe the claim, that was heard for quite a while, that osCommerce is dead, as there were no new releases? Obviously, we have a gazillion forum members, and tons of active posters, so this software is far from being dead. I also think it's not prudent to showcase version 3.0 - but it's not up to us to change things.

Yes it is. The moron(s) who control the site either can't be bothered to add a one line heading "Developer's Release — not for a production store!", or can't realize what a horrible problem it is for osC's image, or they're sadists who enjoy seeing innocent would-be osC users suffer. I don't want to hear bullshit excuses about "version 3 will be production level Real Soon Now, so there's no point in modifying the download page". Given the past history of osC, it will be years before 3.1 goes out the door. I guarantee it.

It is up to the rest of us to force the issue. How about we all go on strike -- no helping anyone or posting anything, until the situation is corrected?
