WebDev22 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I'm considering adding some sort of web site performance monitoring tool/service. Any recommendations? Also, does anyone routinely go through your sites to make sure everything works properly (contact us form, test orders, chat, etc.)?
jpweber Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Webdev, of course you want to configure your website so it's optimized for all major search engines. Each major search engine has their own way of sending a bot to query your website. For instance, Google, you go to http://www.google.com/addurl/ ... Yahoo/Bing you'd go to http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/index.php ... Do this properly, and your site will be indexed by the various search engine bots. Think of it like ... broken links are "points against" you when it comes to search engine rankings. As far as someone going through it and manually checking each link, well, that's on you. If done right, should have no problems. If you have any broken links, it's probably an error in your includes/configure.php file. For just various website tracking data, I would use Google Analytics: http://www.google.com/analytics/ ... I'm sure whatever it is you have in mind to monitor, Analytics will have it. ♥kymation Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 There are programs available to check the links on your site. You should do this any time you make a structural change (New site, added URL Rewriter, etc.) You should not have to do this often. Google's Webmaster Tools are a good way to see what the search engine thinks of your site. It will show you all of the errors that Google has already found. Just remember that it takes time for the pages to be reindexed, so the errors will not go away instantly. Regards Jim See my profile for a list of my addons and ways to get support.
