annetaussig Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 The website for our small business is down. There is an error message which says "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/squirrel/squirrelstuff.com/html/index.php on line 296" What should be done to get the site back up and running. As you know, it is Thanksgiving weekend, and we are losing a lot of sales as a result of this issue.
FIMBLE Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 this is normally due to a unclosed brace "}" missing from the file, or a file that was uploaded that did not complete Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post [/url] My Contributions
annetaussig Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 Not only is the website down, we have also not been able to access the admin page. What does this mean?

MrPhil Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Depending on what mods you've added to your system, you may be able to compare a fresh copy (or backup) of index.php and your present copy. Possibly you were hacked, and bad code added to the file or something lopped off, or there was a file system malfunction and the end of the file was chopped off. Those would be the two ways to end up with more {'s than }'s. Hopefully you will find that just a few lines at the end of the file were lost, and you can edit them back in. Then, if it was the file system, it's off to talk with your host. Otherwise, if you were hacked, look into hardening your system and bringing it up to date security-wise.
