Derek,

Download osCommerce v2.3.1 from this website ( http://www.oscommerce.com/solutions/downloads ), unzip it and then FTP it to your hosting account. Log into your hosting account and create a blank database. Note the database name, username and password.

Then run the osCommerce installation script by browsing to your domain name and the installer ( www.yourdomain.com/install/ )

Enter the information requested to complete the installation.

Derek,

You can use your hosting account file manager to upload the unzipped files to the public_html directory if you wish.

Or, download and use an FTP client like Filezilla or CuteFTP

I had a similar problem using Fantastico to install to public_html, and I ended up deleting that directory

Since I was unable to create a new public_html directory, the solution I found was to have my host terminate the account and reopen a new one

Maybe your host has another solution....
