Add-On vs Contribution

What's the difference between an add-on and a contribution?

Nothing, The Add ons tab was called Contributions until just recently (a year ago)

So an Add-On like this:

Is exactly the same as a Contribution like this:

http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2823

 

(of course those two do different things)

 

So there is nothing different about requirements, integration, functionality, dependencies etc between an add-on or a contribution? Why are there still two ways to represent that same thing? Are the contents of http://oscommerce.com/community/contributions being moved to http://addons.oscommerce.com/ eventually?

 

I am just saying that as a new osCommerce user it is confusing :)

The forum moderators and development team are.......less than organized, to put it nicely so your guess is as good as mine. But, both are available from the add on search feature.
