How do I do this with osCommerce?

In the admin area, under configuration>> downloads, enable them.

 

 

When you set up a virtual product attributes, add the download filename.

 

Finally, upload the file to the /downloads directory on your server.

I've done all this, but where does the customer actually download the file that they are ordered?

 

There are no links in the customer area. Sure they must be somewhere, because one can set the number of times that they can be downloaded.

The link is available on the checkout_sucess page once the transaction is complete. Customers can also log in to their accounts and find the link in the order history section.
