Product with QTY=0 is allowed to buy?

Hello all,

 

I am new, just installed yesterday, and I running through some tests. On my first order as user1... I purchased an item that had a quantity of 1. After the purchase, in the catalog, the quantity was deprecated to 0.

 

However, when I logged out and continued to shop, I was able to select the item and add it to my shopping cart? Is this how the tool is supposed to work? Is there a way to restrict purchases to only items that have qty>0?

 

Our business may have a lot of single items and we need a way to let folks know that the item is no longer available, but they may add it to a wish list.

 

 

NOTE: I have installed no addons... the install is strictly OOB.

Ok... I just saw that the order shows three *** besides the item, indicating it is out of stock. :) This is goodness... :) I guess I just need to figure out how to adapt the code for what we want.

 

Any ideas on the best way to "Customize" the product and not get in deep when patches and upgrades come round.

 

Any links to good discussions about best practices for modifications would be greatly appreciated...

There is an option is the admin section under 'configuration-stock-allow checkout, if you change this to false, you shouldn't be able to checkout with no stock.
