castle12 Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Hi, I have been asked to look into taking over an existing OSCommerce web shop. Having no experience with this software I am looking for some beginners help. Firstly, is there an easy way to tell what version I am on? If so, where can I find the server requirements? Also I would like to know if it would be possible to upgrade to the latest version. I believe the version in use is at least 7 years old. Another thing worrying me is that there is no security on the backend. I am unsure if this is failure by the previous administrator or if it is a major flaw in the software. Upon first looking at the site I was able to access everything piece of data on there except card details. Finally I would appreciate any honest opinions on the support provided for OSCommerce.
♥toyicebear Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 1. You can check the version in this file: includes/application_top.php 2. You should start over with a new install the latest stable version 2.31 , then just import over the products/categories/customers/orders from your old shops db. 3. osCommerce is free and open source and as such do not have any "support" outside of the help and support you will get in this forum.
