Sales Reports confusion

Recommended Posts

There seem to be two contributions by the same person (Charly Wilhelm) with similar dates and names. One is:

Sales Report

http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,524

and the other is:

Sales Report 2

http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,953

I installed the latter, thinking it was probably an updated version of the former, but I'm not sure. Can anyone tell me (Charly?) if these are two different animals? Is one better than the other? I know I saw references to a graph but Sales Report 2 doesn't seem to have this. I searched but came up empty. Thanks!

looks like he just posted it twice in different catagories

We all need to learn it once, how hard it may seem when you look at it, also you will master it someday ;)

Since this repost doesn't distinguish between the different types of order statuses, this report is nearly usless anyway, as it is currently constructed.

Especially if you use PayPal IPN or order statuses such as 'cancelled' or 'returned'

The second one I listed "Sales Report 2" does have a drop-down box to filter on the order status. I guess I should try to email the author and just ask what the differences are. Is there another sales report contribution that I missed, a better one perhaps?

There is a "Monthly Sales/Tax" contribution that works GREAT.

However it doesn't have everything that the sales contribution has. I didn't know about the Sales 2, I'll have to check it out.

Yes, I agree. The monthly sales/tax contribution is great. Maybe the version 2 of the other was created to address you concerns. It's still very confusing in the contributions list, but that list is always confusing .

yeah I saw that sales report 2 was released on march 8th 2003... I'm gonna install it tonight and see how good it works...

I also like the monthly sales/tax report... true it doesn't give as detailed info as the sales report, but that's not the point... the point of the monthly sales tax is to get monthly gross sales figures for tax purposes.

though I run them side by side... in the old sales report, it did not add in shipping to the gross sales number, so net sales for both were different (or I think net sales from monthly sales tax = gross sales from sales report)... which didn't make any sense to me why sales report was calling net sales gross sales... it can be confusing since shipping isn't added in (and shipping IS part of gross sales), but the figure is still labeled "gross sales" in sales report... this is one reason I personally prefer monthly sales/tax because it starts with the actual gross sales, and then lists all of the items it deducts (shipping, tax, etc...), lists subtotals for those deductions from the gross and then lists the net sales (though not techniqually net sales... it is net sales before COGS (cost of goods sold)... and since OSC doesn't know the figures to determine COGS, its about as close as OSC can get u to a net sales figure).

yeah, one thing I just found out recently, is that orders that are altered with the 'Order Update Tool' skew the results from the Monthly Sales/Tax report.

I'm wondering if the same is true with the Sales 2, though I suspect it is.

these are two different contributions.

sales report (1):

- a contribution i made for a friend of mine. with help of greg williams.

- i don't think i gonna put some work in that anymore.

sales report 2:

- a contribution i made for d-woo. he asked me to do it specially for his needs. according to a sales report from another open source ecommerce suite.

- i didn't have a good name, so i called it sales report 2 :(

differences:

- no graphics in sr2

- exports in sr2 (to csv)

- you can see how many articles you sold

- better coding in sr2 ...

  • 6 months later...

I am using Sales Report 2. I am having problems with attribute quantities on the report. If I have two orders for Product Y. The dollar values are correct.

Order #1: Qty 3 Product Y Option Blue

Order #2: Qty 2 Product Y Option Red

The sales report 2 shows

#Items # Orders

Product Y 5

1x Red

1x Blue

Is it possible to make the attributes totals correct so that it reads 3x Blue and 2x Red?

Thanks any help or hints.
