qwertyjjj Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 My site needs to be in French. However, even though I have added French in the admin, when I deleted the english folder and english.php, the page errors because my browser default is English. Do the english files have to remain?
Jack_mcs Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 If you are not going to use the language, all files for it should be deleted and the entry in the database,admin->Localization->Languages, should be deleted. You may have to clear your browsers cache if has a language set. And if you are using a purchased template, they may have coded it to point to a particular language. I did that but the opage just errors out. It seems to want the english folder regardless of whether another default exists. It has also caused this problem: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/379346-categories-disappeared-in-admin/
♥kymation Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 You must change the default language before deleting the English language and its files. Regards Jim See my profile for a list of my addons and ways to get support.

Jack_mcs Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 If you don't have any other language in the shop (files and database) and your existing language is setup as the default and you have cleared your browsers cache, then it would have to be how your shop is coded. Is there any problem with keeping the folder called english and english.php but changing all the text to French?

qwertyjjj Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 No, that is fine. But won't oscommerce read the browser language as francais but not find a folder or will it always default to the english folder regardless?
Jack_mcs Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 In a correctly operating shop, whichever language is chosen on the shop determines which set of files is used. But something seems to have been changed in your shop with regards to how languages are handled so prediciting what the code will do, without looking at the code, is not possible. qwertyjjj Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 So, if I rename the english folder to francais, english.php to francais.php, and then change language in the admin, that is all I have to do?
