Switching versions of OS Commerce

First, I'm a newbie to OS Commerce, so please pardon any ignorant questions which arise in this post.

I am a new administrative assistant for an organization that has a website which utilizes OS Commerce. The previous administrator didn't leave me much information about the site, other than log-on and password info. So I'm operating mostly blind at this point.

The question I would like to pose of the forum is this: Our organization has been running OS Commerce version 2.2 (RC1), and I notice that OS Commerce has gone through several version changes to either v. 2.3.1 or v. 3.0.2. When I try to look at upgrading our software, it seems that there are quite a number of "hoops" to jump through to do the upgrades from v. 2.2. Should I consider simply saving customer information from the currently installed version and uninstalling v. 2.2 then recreating everything using either a newly installed v. 2.3.1 or 3.0.2? Or is there a quick way for a newbie like me to upgrade from our current version and get everything in working order?

(Side note: I'm a newbie to all things eCommerce-related, so I've got a learning curve no matter what I do).

Thanks for any help you can offer!

If you have a working website on 2.2 you are happy with, then there is little reason to upgrade to 2.3. (forget 3.0, it's not ready for general use). 2.3 is not any faster than 2.2. There are a couple of security updates, but these security updates can implemented just fine on 2.2.

Thanks for the reply. How do I go about locating those security updates you mention? (I'm sure they're easily accessible, I just haven't found any at OS Commerce's website yet).

If security patches were not applied till date.I recommend do it as early as possible.
