Server taking too long to respond

Hi,

 

My oscommerce shop is running very slow and sometimes it gives messages like ' server taking too long to respond','unable to connect to database server' etc.When i look into the logs i can find lot of errors like 'File does not exist' for many images.But those images are present. Also my admin panel takes lot of time complete any action.Can any one plese help me on this , because this some thing critical.How can i know if the problem is with my applicatio or domain hosting
