huntingsupply Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Two weeks ago I switched from bigcommerce to oscommerce and I went from 200 visitors a day to 0. I don't really know much about this stuff so I was just wondering if there is an obvious reason for this to happen.. We also changed our template when we switched. Thank you for your time!
NodsDorf Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Really need more information. What was your old site URL, what is the new site? Do you know where your traffic was coming from before? How did you track it? How long were you with bigcommerce and how come your existing customers didn't return? Do they know where you are now? Did you switch host? Did you transfer your DNS?
huntingsupply Posted August 28, 2011 Author Posted August 28, 2011 www.huntingsupplyshop.com we were with big commerce for 2 months from day one getting 30 views a day we are changing the look of the site now so its not as nice as it used to be. You can still pull it up at www.huntingsupplyshop.com but if you click the logo it reloads as http://genesis5.securesites.net/index.php we were using the tools bigcommerce had and google analytics to view the traffic it seemed most of the traffic was coming from search engines directly to a product on out site. We did switch hosts its now on a dedicated server and the only thing that was asked for was "the database file".I wish I knew more about this stuff but im getting there!

NodsDorf Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Right so it sounds like the search engines have your old url's indexed. You will in the long run be better off by moving to your own server package. If you can use cannonical or .htaccess redirects to your new pages that would be ideal. Typically, it takes 30 days to get your urls into the major search engines, and longer to actually try and compete with high competition industries. If your products or services are unique you'll probably start at top of the SERP's (Search Engine Results Pages).
