nkalush Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Hello, I was hired to move a store using OSCommerce 2.2-MS2 to a new server. Before I ever touched it, there was a problem with the "add to cart" buttons not putting items in the cart. So that needs to be fixed. The other problem I'm having now that I've moved it is with the search, sort and category pages not showing anything. The products seem to be sorted into categories in the admin area, and that's all I can say definitively on the matter right now. In the process of writing this message I somehow manages to stop the store from showing any products as well, undoing the changes I made didn't seem to fix that and what I'm seeing on the main page now is "Die angegebene Datei konnte nicht auf dem Server gefunden werden!" where the products should be. Which is odd because german isn't actually one of the languages the store is set to use... I could really use some help as to where to look for the solutions to these problems, I am not sure what extra information would be helpful to anyone who can help me, so if something else is needed I can provide that.
Guest Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Nick, I am not sure of your experience level with osCommerce, but the FIRST thing you should have told your client is NO, I can't move this site. The reason, it is too old and needs to be updated. MS2 was written for use with PHP 4.x and MySQL 4.0. The errors you are experiencing is because more than likely the NEW host is running updated server software which is preventing the site from functioning properly. Two solutions: 1) Ask the new host if they will run PHP 4.x and Mysql 4.0 on that clients hosting account. (not recommended) 2) Create a NEW site using v2.3.1 so that it is more secure and has a stronger core structure. One more thing, if this is your first, second or third osCommerce site. DON'T take on this project until you have more experience. There is nothing worse than a web developer 'learning' at the expense of the client. Chris
nkalush Posted August 25, 2011 Author Posted August 25, 2011 Thanks for the reply, the client is actually having a new site made alreadt, they just wanted me to move this one to their new server along with the other sites I've been making them. So instead of changing the server over php4 and messing things up for later. I'm just going to suggest they hold on to their old hosting for the time being. It would be great if I could somehow make the cart start working again though on there if you have any ideas on how to fix that?
