How to show a few samples underneath each category?

Hi all

 

I'm running 2.3.1 and wondering how to change the products page.

 

At present/default click on a top level category that has say 3 child categories below it, the next page shows the child categories, and so on

 

What I'm after having is a full width category title for each child category and underneath the title 2 or 3 products from that category. then after this the next full width category title and 2 or 3 products from that category.

 

Any ideas how to achieve this?
