Change Main Website Banner?

Hello there,

 

I'm having trouble changing the main banner for the site, the one in the top right that when clicked on returns the user to the main web page. Could someone please point me in the right direction?

 

Also is it possible to use a different file format than GIF for said banner?

A standard osCommerce installation has the banner on the top left. v2.3.1 has a store logo upload button in the admin area under configuration>> store logo.
