dansmith13 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I am one of two people running a small business. We cut trees and retail the wood, so there is nothing technical about the business itself. I spend many hours working on the online marketing/retailing end and have no formal training in any software applications. That being said, we built our original store in v1.2. It has never been updated. Some things are not currently working correctly and I am thinking if I start by rebuilding the store in the current version, I will have more options for fixing the issues. Generally, I have 4-10 hours per week to work online, and any time I do other things, we make less sales. So, time is valuable. I am hesitant to even post this here, because often when I do post in forums for help, I get responses that are not written in a way that my untrained mind can process. So, if any of you who have great experience with osCommerce could suggest a plan of attack, I would love to hear it. Site can be referenced at smith-lumber.com Thanks in advance.
Guest Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Dan, I looked at your site, it is basic osCommerce site....so, you could create a NEW site using v2.3.1 and then just import your product tables into the new site. OR, re-enter them since you have so few products listed. Total time should be about 60 minutes, even for someone with limited knowledge of osCommerce. Chris
dansmith13 Posted August 17, 2011 Author Posted August 17, 2011 I appreciate your time in writing a reply. I guess it illustrates how far I am from where I should be to be doing this. However, financial reality does not allow for outsourcing this and necessitates that it be done. I can recreate the site. I have no idea, though, how to "import...product tables into the new site." I could also re-enter the products. Again illustrating the divide between those in the know and me--the 100 products on the site would take me many hours to re-enter. Thank you again for the response. Dan, I looked at your site, it is basic osCommerce site....so, you could create a NEW site using v2.3.1 and then just import your product tables into the new site. Guest Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Dan, Ok, so how about you start with downloading v2.3.1 and installing it on your server into a sub-directory (catalog, store, shop) and THEN when you are ready to import the tables from the old site to the new, you can ask someone here to walk you through it. SOMETIMES, members here offer their help to complete tasks like this one. Chris
