send utf-8 mail from admin, not working

First of: my site is RC2a upgraded to v2.3.1


The catalog side is working nicely including mail, after code changes for utf-8 support.

I have done the same code changes on th admin side, everything is working as it should,

but not "Send email to customers" (I haven't tested newsletter & product notification yet).


The received test mail from admin look like this:


From: > [sara<[email protected]] <-----------This should have been: [sara<[email protected]>] Or?

date: den 8 augusti 2011 17:49

To: Sara

subject: gmd <---------------------The foreign characters are dropped


message: jämföra hittade databasen The message is ok



I have searched all over, and tried to fix this myself.


All I can think of is that mail is in fact handled differently admin/catalog,

contact us uses tep_mail while emails on the admin side uses:


$mimemessage->send($mail['customers_firstname'] . ' ' . $mail['customers_lastname'], $mail['customers_email_address'], '', $from, $subject);


So how can I fix this, it must have been seen before?
