new account not creating in 'waiting approval'

Please help....this is only happening to some customers and seems somewhat random. When customer creates an account, usually I get an automated email that is from the customer (uses their name that they applied with), but sometimes the automated email comes from their email address - no name - like it hasn't recoginsed the customer name or something? When I go into 'waiting approval' in the admin, the application is not there to approve.

I have tried it myself this morning, and the same thing has happened to me, yet I filled the form in correctly. I cannot understand what is happening? I have tried using different browsers, but that didn't help.

What now? I have a customer waiting for an account, but it won't come through the system even though she has applied twice.

After further investigation, it only seems to be happeing where the country is New Zealand. However I have other customers from New Zealand, and there were no problems in the past with them.

Have you looked at the database to see if anything was created? It's possible they are using some sort of funky character in the name that's causing the problem.

Well, the weird thing is that when I tried to create an account using New Zealand as the country, it wouldn't work for me either. But even weirder, I just tried to creat an account for them using their address, but Australia as the country, and the same thing happened - no account to approve? I'm completely baffled by this. >_<

Ok, so I tried creating an account for me using a New Zealand address but Australia as the country and it was a no-go. Wouldn't work.

SO..I ended up creating an account for myself with an Australian address, then approving it in admin, then changing all the details to the new customer who wanted an account. I set it to her email address, her name and her New Zealand business address and then emailed her with the password, which she can change if she wants, once logged in.

Meanwhile, the whole thing remains a mystery and if it happens again, I'll just have to create the account for them again using my own details.
