Download store problem, zip file conversion from .zip to .zip SFX archives

Hello All

I've recently finished a project that went live here - http://www.brightonguitarlessons.co.uk/shop - which is basically a download store. Took me ages to figure out what the problem was here as I couldn't make the problem happen but the odd customer simply couldn't open the downloaded .zip file ... so I compared the file I had uploaded, then went through the buying process and compared that with origional, both opened fine on my machine but the archive had been changed to a zip. SFX file, which I thought was odd but still couldn't figure out why some people couldn't open it ... heres some pics of what I mean

before-upload.png Here is the origional archive before I uploaded it to my server (I also tried re-downloading the archive via FTP to check if my FTP program did something weird, but it was exactly the same as this, so this is how it is on my server)

after-upload-download.png And here it is after the buying process, you'll see it has now changed to a SFX ZIP archive ...

And as which these things its usually a very simple reason why it's not working, and its no different here .. I was using WinRAR to open said arcieve so I thought I'd download a few of the other popular zip programs to see if I ran in to any problems and BAM, WinZIP will not open these SFX archives, I know its rubbish and I hate WinZIP .. but still a lot of customers using this site are using it.

Helpful stuff you may need to know, I'm running oscommerce merchant v2.3.1 ... gZip compression has been turned off (I've done some research and some people say that causes problems with downloads)

So if anyone has any ideas how I can stop osCommerce converting my files on download, or any other bright ideas how I can get around this problem I'd be extremely grateful!

Regards Neil Kelsey
