Installation on a non-osCommerce Template

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I've taken a look at the install guide forum however i'm not sure whether these set up instructions will work with a template which has not been downloaded directly from osCommerce. I'm also already using a seperate content management system ( w-cms.org ) which i'm not sure will be compatible with osCommerce, however I do need to be able to use sell things so osCommerce is a real must.

I'd really appreciate any help you can give, thank you!

Sam,

Follow the installation instructions that were included with the download you purchased. If you need help, contact the template seller.

Hi Chris, the template I downloded led me through the steps of installing the content management system however can lead me no further. Also, since it was free I have no particular person I can ask for help.

Sam,

Unfortunately, it is impossible to tell EXACTLY what it is that you downloaded so it is also impossible to give you advice on how to install it.

Sam,

FTP = File Transfer Protocol. This refers to such programs as CuteFTP and Filezilla to name a couple. If you log into your hosting server using an FTP client, you will see the directory tree of your server, right click on the directory/file you want to change permissions for and you will see the numbers (705, 604, 444, etc) Make the changes as described in the documentation.

Alright, i've downloaded and installed the Filezilla Server and Client and have been able to log in to both, however when I right-click on one of the files in Filezilla Client the options to change permissions aren't there, did I miss something?

Sam,

When you right click on a directory or file on the server side of Filezilla, you will be presented with some options. One of which is Set Permissions. Click that and a box appears with the current permissions value, set the permissions to what you want them to and click ok.

ps. Filezilla client is what you should be using.

So I open up FileZilla Client and right click on one of the files, these are the things which come up - Upload, Add files to queue, Open, Edit, Create directory, Refresh, Delete, Rename.

I've tried clicking Edit but an error comes up saying 'Cannot edit file, remote path unknown'.

Well, if nothing is there, then it shows nothing, so, question, is there anything on your server?

And of course you can uload php files, if you can not, because of some I don't know what restriction, then you can't have osCommerce, but first time I hear about something like this

In general, I think you should instal a clean osCommerce and after this is done start asking concrete questions. All of your questions here have been covered already many times, like "how to change permissions" etc, try a little your self, that's not even strictly osCommerce related, so google will help you

Ok, i've got FileZilla working and I can now change permissions and upload files.

However i've got a bit of a broader question, I was reading the Quick Install Guide but came up short when it told me to make sure that the includes/configure.php file and the admin/includes/configure.php file are set to 777. I don't believe I have those files. I don't see the includes or admin folder anywhere. I remember extracting and dumping everything from the catalog folder but not the catalog folder itself into the www directory so it should be here shouldn't it?

P.S - I'm not searching for it inside the FTP screen if you know what I mean.

Sam,

The TWO files are required for osCommerce to operate. After installation of your site on your server, you should set the permissions to 444.
