Admin very slow after adding many categories

I have a new site and it was running fast on the site, and on the back end, however lately it is horribly slow. I have a lot of categories and about 1500 products. I've seen some updates, I just don't know if they will work with my version. Can someone please help me with this issue? I am running version 2.3.1

Since a lot of my products are linked, I actually have about 2500 items, but by looking on this forum, thats's nothing compared to most of the people on here.

Thanks in advance

There are contributions that help speed up the admin, like configuration cache and category tree optimization. See this thread for more details.

You need sql table partitioning, indexing and transfer logic. These problems ask for database experts and not only osCommerce. Table optimisations is not an easy job.

but first of all you need some bug fixing in admin site.

osCommerce 3 wont be table optimisated but will be easy update something or add optimisation extends.
