wickdbea
I had a college student create a website/store for me back in 2003 and it has been working well with a few people trying to help me do a few updates here and there and I have struggled to change a few simple things (prices, item descriptions, etc). I do not understand the backends of the site. I am trying to find someone that can help me do some changes/updates. The site has always worked well just a little frustrating that I can't update like I want and I am at the crossroads of deciding if it is necessary to spend the thousands of dollars that some of the website companies want to create a new site. Thanks from a non-computer savvy small business gal.
Guest
Sandra, You MAY be using version RC1 or even MS2. Updating it from one of those versions would be, in my opinion time wasted. I have found that it is easier to create a NEW website rather than update a prior version that old. You would need to update each level until you reach v2.3.1. Any added contributions would also need to be updated at each step. A new website shouldn't cost THOUSANDS of dollars to create but that depends on your specific needs. burt
I recently updated a shop from TEP (this was a very very old version of osCommerce, circa 2001) to 2.3.1. It took a week. A week does not cost thousands of dollars. What you need to beware of is paying for someone to learn osCommerce while (re)building your site - that is where it becomes expensive. wickdbea
I have noticed when I have looked on the os commerce info pages that you can download a newer version... so my question is if you do that can you then just transfer all the info you have on an older version into the newer version or do you have to create everything from scratch (i.e. all the pages, etc)? Guest
The v2.3.1 download includes update instructions from v2.2 RC2a, but does not include update information from versions prior to RC2a. In your case, you would need to create the site, alter you current database and then import it into the new v2.3.1 database structure.
