The e-commerce.

Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable

We having been having some issues with our hosting. They have been having some serious downtime issues and think this is having knock on effects with our osCommerce shop.

When we login to the admin panel it now says along the top

Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable: /home/soc/public_html/shop/images/

When we now try and add images to our catalog, they appear on the FTP but all have a 0kb filesize and don't show on the shop.

Anybody have any ideas what is going on?

We are running a 100% "un-hacked" install of osCommerce Online Merchant v2.3.1

Any help or advice would be great.

While on the subject can anyone recommend a good quality web host, ideally for use with osCommerce.

Thanks

Did you check your CHMOD value of your image directory? 755 or 0755 depending on your host is what you should be at.

As for host,

I have used InMotionhosting, AvaHost, BlueHost, and Ipower, HostMonster, GoDaddy.

Of them I've had the least problems with BlueHost.

That said, there is a prominent member of Oscommerce who runs his own hosting, maybe a reseller service, but still somebody who knows OSC and has a hosting service kinda makes it an ideal choice. Check Jack_mcs profile.

set images directory to 777.

Add proper htaccess so no .php files get executed.
