Credit Card Dispute form customer even shipped to billing address

I have a customer in USA ordered from our online store, we used Fedex shipped the package to his billing address and someone signed at his place. The person who signed the package is not the card owner. Fedex confirmed the package deliveries to the address anyway. Now the person filed dispute, we will need to bring the case to VISA and there is a $500 fee for us on reviewing the case. I want to know does anyone has this experience. I want to see if it is worth for us on spending that $500? Also, compare the order amount that $500 is not a lot. I want to see if there is a good chance for winning this case.

I think if that customer is winning then I think nobody have to work. Just order online for everything the ask someone to sign it.

You should not have to pay a fee to counter the dispute. Did you ship from the USA? If so, Merchant Services should have sent you a form to fill out. All you need to do is document what you have said.

Also, tell FedEx that your customer didn't get the package. The driver then needs to go back and he will talk with the person that signed the package. If you lose the Visa dispute, you can make a claim with FedEx.

Peter,

If you have a signature for delivery from Fedex, I don't see how the customer could dispute the credit card transaction. Something doesn't sound right there and as Mark stated, there should not be a fee to defend a dispute claim. I would send a demand letter the customer demanding payment, if that fails...hire a lawyer to file a small claims case against the customer, it would be a better use of $500.00 in my opinion.

meniscus: It is already beyond the Merchant Services level. The card issuer bank is shifting this issue to VISA (the real VISA, not the card issuer). And VISA needs $500 service fee for reviewing this case and then make a decision. It is good idea to tell Fedex to have it check on this, they can catch the person who sign the package at that place. thanks.

DunWeb: yes, this is really happening. I have the signature of delivery and shipped to the billing address. The customer still able to dispute. Yes, I think I will go ahead to spend $500.

If i lost, then I won't work anymore. I will just use my credit card to buy anything I want and dispute later. Just make sure my mom signs the package. --- Just kidding.
