EEEEK Help!

I run an older version of oscommerce simply because the template I use is an old one.

I now need to mover my hosting to a different server, but have absolutely no clue how to do this without losing all my products. A lot of work has gone into the site and I don't want to start all over again!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thank You

Move the whole thing, including database.

Update the two configure files.

Done.

As you run an older version, you might also take the time to ensure that the security of the site is up to scratch.

Unless you plan on changing the version of your shop it is pretty simple.

Just export a copy of your database with all the data. FTP down all your files.

Create a new database on your new host then upload the database then ftp up the files.

You'll need to edit your configure.php files to point to new server.

You can use a program called BigDump to help with the database upload.

A lot of the hosting company will import all of your directories and database for you usually free (check with them on this). Also if you are moving to another hosting company, most of them will do the same.

Regardless of how you do this you need to either back everything up to your computer if you can including your data in your database. Or overlap your two servers times. Pay for your first server for one month after you start your second server that way you will have everything on your 1st server for comparison.

The second way is the best way.

I moved from one server to another myself a couple years ago and kept my 1st until my second server was running smoothly. My hosting company did the move for me free and they did miss a little bit but not much. By having my first server it was pretty easy to find what I needed. The hosting company was very helpful in the whole process including moving what they had missed.

Remember experience and satisfaction can very by company.

If you have limited knowledge of this process I think you would be best to let the hosting company do the move.

Good luck.
