jon87uk
Hello Im new to this and im wanting me own template used for os commcerce and was informed of the STS ( simple template system ) and i have downloaded that and uploaded the files and then installed os commcerce along with them files but im not getting the modules tab in the admin section. so i reckon im using the wrong script. what im confused about is the way its told. im using os commcerce 2.3.1 which one should i use ? Folder "Files for MS2": files to copy over a fresh osCommerce 2.2MS2 (060817) installation. Folder "Files for RC1": files to copy over a fresh osCommerce Online Merchant 2.2RC1 installation. Folder "Files for RC2": files to copy over a fresh osCommerce Online Merchant 2.2RC2 installation. the above does not state which one is for 2.3.1 ? so maybe the reason modules tab does not show up is because im using the wrong one ? would be greatful to get some guidance regarding this. thanks =]

NodsDorf
Jonathan, Currently, STS is not functional in v2.3.1. Chris I haven't done much with 2.3 yet, but I already noticed that there are Templates on some of the template sites for it. Before they really abused the power of STS to make the 2.2 templates. I wonder is it fairly easy to fancy up a site now without STS? Or are these template people actually having to do major coding to get things pretty? multimixer
I wonder is it fairly easy to fancy up a site now without STS? Or are these template people actually having to do major coding to get things pretty? You don't need STS to "fancy up" a site, even I think it would be still a helpful tool if existing for 2.3.1. Regarding what "template people" do to get things pretty: It depends, for example on how familiar they are with version 2.3.1 to take advantage of the features, on how much they really care about the quality of what they produce etc etc. So, some templates come equal to a complete reinstallation of osCommerce, nearly each file has been modified and stuffed with additional html and classes etc. Some other templates require just changes to a couple of files, something around 5-10 files. I do personally vote for the second way: Not only that installation is much easier, the code remain also in original condition, so that any addons etc can be added easily. jon87uk
thanks for all your replys :) i agree alot of people abused sts but it was still a helpful tool in creating our own styled template... im a web desiner not a php expert, so the sts module would of been handy as i would of been able to just shove afew lines of code where ever i wanted something to appear, im going to try the new 3.0.1 if the error i get has been fixed lol... not even installed it. once again thank you people. Jack_mcs
thanks for all your replys :) i agree alot of people abused sts but it was still a helpful tool in creating our own styled template... im a web desiner not a php expert, so the sts module would of been handy as i would of been able to just shove afew lines of code where ever i wanted something to appear, im going to try the new 3.0.1 if the error i get has been fixed lol... not even installed it. once again thank you people. I suggest you stick with RC2 for now. A very big mistake was made with 2.3 in releasing it with the grid system, in my opinion. So much so that it has basically killed that version. If it is released without the grid system, which is the way it should have been released, then STS could be added to it without too much trouble. As it is now, sticking with RC2 is the best option, again, in my opinion. V 3 is still not ready for actual use. You will most likely want to use it once it is, but that may well be another 6-12 months. SLiCK_303
The grid system is the least of 2.3.1's problem, it's the use of jQueryUI that REALLY makes it a turd! Not to hijack this thread or anything... just sayin. :P
multimixer
@Jack: I don't think that the grid system is the main reason for STS not being compatible with 2.3.1. I think it's because boxes are classes now and you can not individually place them using tags @slick: Why this? What's so bad about the jQuary used? Do you mean the "ui- theming"? That can be easily overridden in css. Or do you mean eg that a datepicker in create account is a bad thing? The grid system itself: It's really very decently used. It's not present in any files "body", there are no grids all over, changing template_top and template_bottom you can get rid of the grid (☂) All in all: Yes, sts is a useful tool, I've been using it my self in the past, and it would be the same useful if existing for 2.3.1. In the same time, and referring to the topic title, it made it just possible to get such a thing, at least for me My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel
