wsod
How does osCommerce sort products, saved in a category? I thought they were sorted by date (last in, first out), but there's no apparent pattern. :-( I have a category with five products in it. They are not sorted by date, not alphabetically, not by quantity and not by price. It appears the order is random. How can that be?
Jack_mcs
There isn't any sort code for products built-in. You need to install one of the product sort contributions. wsod
Really? No sort order at all per default? Wow... :-(
♥toyicebear
A default install of OSC v2.31 sort products by name (ascending) in the category view, you can also change the sort descending or by price by clicking on the "column" headers. Jack_mcs
Really? No sort order at all per default? Wow... :-( That's correct. That's the whole purpose of contributions. They provide functions that are not in the core code. Hotclutch
Read this: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/308798-product-listing-sort-order/ You don't have to change alot of code to sort by something more useful such as price etc.
wsod
As it turned out, the products were actually alphabetized, as they ought to be per default. I was confused because some of the product names had European decimals (with commas), which placed them in a weird spot. I managed to change the sort order, by modifying a line of code in index.php. Thanks.
