dewed
I've spent the past hour looking for help on setting up the taxes for a store in Alberta Canada. All I've accomplished is becoming even more confused than I was when I started. What would really be nice is step by step documentation for each province, instead every thread that I've found evolves from being helpful into debates about what is taxed at what rate. Many contain some, but not all of the required steps to set it up. Stressing "documentation".. not debates & discussion. I also found this http://604media.com/blog/oscommerce-configuring-canadian-tax-zones-and-rates/ which is quite helpful.. I just wish it was more detailed and written for shops in Alberta instead of BC. Just call me Dewed ...
ae1969
... you are in luck Duane. If you live in Alberta and as long as you dont have a 'company' presence in another province (physical location). It is not your problem. All you need to worry about is the GST.

It is not your problem. All you need to worry about is the GST. Registered businesses in Canada are required to collect taxes on ALL purchases within Canada regardless of the province of origin. So, the OP is required to collect taxes from all sales in Canada at the tax rates set by Revenue Canada Chris
dewed
instead every thread that I've found evolves from being helpful into debates about what is taxed at what rate. Thanks for the replies. and for proving my point somewhat :-" Obviously I'm not the only one running OSC in Alberta Canada, and hopefully someone out there has successfully mastered the tax set up, but of course those people aren't patrolling the forums, or donating their time to create step by step documentation. Their probably too busy paying taxes  Just call me Dewed ...
Guest
Duane, The site you referenced is pretty comprehensive and can be applied to osCommerce with very little trouble. The fact that is was written with BC in mind, changes nothing to the application in osCommerce because you have to set all tax zones and rates anyway. The most confusing about Canadian taxes, comes when you also have to tax shipping to every province.....that is what is really complicated when compounded with provincial taxes. dewed
So you are saying that is as good as it gets. Doesn't it seem to be missing some crucial steps ? I guess I'm just too thick. I've read so many contradictory and partial instructions that my brain is now a pile of lime jello. I do appreciate your efforts and please don't take my sarcasm as anything other than my way of coping with this, but what now? If I could pay someone $20 to set this up I certainly would, if I was sure they knew how to do it. Just call me Dewed ...
