How you charge for preparing a website?

Randy,

Although this topic skirts on soliciting services which is against forum rules, I will to reply without getting this post deleted.

A website developer is likely to charge in one of two ways.

First, hourly fee which can range from $60 to $100 an hour depending on the experience and quality the developer brings to the table. This form of compensation usually pertains to smaller jobs like adding contributions, troubleshooting issues and sometimes graphic design.

Second, developers might quote on the entire project if it is larger as quoting it hourly would not result in a reasonable quote. Complete osCommerce websites have been known to sell from $300.00 to $4000.00 depending on what the client wants. To give you more of a bearing on what you would receive for those fee's, a $300.00 website might include some of the more popular contributions, the additions/creation of a banner for the top of the site and some minor layout changes (colors, fonts, etc). A $4000.00 site would include any/all contributions you requested, a custom template and any custom coding you require to perform the functionality you are looking for. At this price level, it may also include Flash images and the addition of your products to the database.

So, to summarize your question..it all depends on what you want and the skill level of the developer.

Tip: DON'T hire a graphics designer to create an osCommerce template for you. It will look pretty, but usually ends up not functioning properly. In some cases, you will find it useful to hire a developer and a graphics designer to achieve your overall goals.

You will find some of the members here offer professional services, but can not advertise them in the forums. Those members usually have a link in their signature to their 'about me' tab of their profile. So, check out some of those as well.
