osCommerce

The e-commerce.

no left or right columns

Recommended Posts

My site was hacked invaded etc. At the recommendation of my provider, I removed all my oscommerce files and installed 2.3.1 (along with several security addons). Things seem to be moving along ok but I don't have right or left columns. It's been a long time since I did the orignal install (way back in 2004 - I did update to 2.2 along the way).

I am not finding anything by searching the forum... Any help is greatly appreciated.

The columns have changed in 2.3.1. You now configure the boxes in your store's Admin panel >> Modules >> Boxes. Read the documentation.pdf that comes with 2.3.1 for more information.

I don't have any columns at all in the catalog section (see violetcrownsoap.com/shop) of the site. None. So at this point, boxes in the columns are not the issue - the issue is no columns. While the info from the left column in there and accessible in the admin section, there's no format - it's just a list that bleeds off of the page. When I click on the Modules>>Boxes from admin panel, all I get is the location of the directory.

To make sure I've stated this correctly: I had a 2.2 installation. Hacked mercilessly. Deleted ALL oscommerce files from the server.

Did a new install of 2.3.1

Loaded table values from old database (had one minor table fix that found in the forum here)

Installed following add-ons for security

SiteMonitor

IP Trap

Security Pro

I know I am missing something but I don't know what. I've looked at the documentation but don't see anything about columns that aren't there at all. Appreciate any and all help.

Turn off your URL rewriter. It's making an unholy mess on your site. Ask again if you're still having problems after you get that fixed.

I don't know what you're using. If you've installed an Addon, check the instructions. If it's the built-in one, go to your Admin >> Configuration >> My Store >> Use Search-Engine Safe URLs and set it to false.

Now the URLs look normal. Your other problems are ... very weird. The lack of proper formatting looks like a missing theme file, but all of the files I can see are there. The "add to cart" button is a standard form button, which is wrong for both osCommerce 2.2x and 2.3.1. Is this a modified copy of 2.3.1 or an attempt to upgrade 2.2x? Either way, it's badly messed up.

Did you use the old database as-is or import it into the 2.3.1 database? You have to import, as the database structure has changed.

You didn't say which "Security" Addons you used. One or more of those may have been installed incorrectly or be incompatible with 2.3.1. 2.3.1 is secure by default, so you don't need to add anything except monitoring addons to watch for hack attempts.

I figured it out - it went south when I restored my 2.2 database. I deleted everything and did ANOTHER new install and then very carefully only inserted the values from my old database - did not mess with the table structures. There were a couple of tables that were different and I guess that was enough. Anyway, it's much better now.

I added SiteMonitor and Security Pro.

Thanks for your help.
