♥Biancoblu
I am getting slowly but surely annoyed by this and would appeciate an answer. This is not the first time my status updates get deleted without explanation or notice. Let's see: I don't post commercial updates, so what could the problem be? I once posted an update to the effect that Federer vs Nadal was the best tennis in the world, who could have been upset by this? a Djokovic fan? What else could have upset people here? the fact that I post updates in French, my mother tongue? where exactly does it say that it is forbidden to post updates in languages other than English?? Who does it offend, upset or shock? Congratulations for censoring a quote by one of the major French philosopher of the 20th century! Perhaps the powers that be would like to delete this trashy post too: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/372495-osc-v3-in-simple-terms/page__view__findpost__p__1574629 where the poster clearly tries to look smart by attempting to insult someone in....French, you guessed it! I have always been respectful, patient and kind to everyone here even when it wasn't deserved, I am therefore both upset and disappointed by the way I'm treated in return and will seriously consider stopping finacially supporting this project if this issue isn't resolved. ~ Don't mistake my kindness for weakness ~
Harald Ponce de Leon
Hi Isabella.. I recently removed a few status updates that were not in English. Although this is an international community, postings here should be in english. The status updates that are posted here in another language mainly arrive automatically through Twitter or Facebook. If you post something on Twitter or Facebook in another language that you also want to communicate to the community here, please post a status update here in english so everyone can understand it. Inappropriate postings can be reported by using the posts "Report" button. This officially notifies team members that a posting must be reviewed for appropriate action. Thanks, , osCommerce
♥Biancoblu
The truth is that some individuals feel threatened by languages other than their own and seeing as such individuals are top posters with high reputation scores, and on top of that coders that contribute to the community, their whims and wishes are taken into account. I, on the other hand, am no coder, I don't post great contributions and often ask for help, I am therefore not part of the privileged ones whose opinion counts. It is now clear that my two cents is of no value here but I'll voice it anyway: a mere status update, albeit in a foreign language, doesn't bring anything negative to the community, on the contrary, especially when said community claims to be international. As for inappropriate posts like the one I linked to, I would have thought that seeing as you were posting on that thread yourself, you would have noticed it was of a dubious nature. I know English and French well enough to understand what the poster wanted to get at when he ran his phrase through google translate only to get a pale reflection of his thoughts, and yet that post is still there, like tons of other dubious ones that never were deleted much less reprimanded. I still don't know why my update on tennis was deleted, it was in English and it certainly was not commercial. With all due respect, this tells me there is one rule for privileged posters and another for the rest of us. ~ Don't mistake my kindness for weakness ~
Harald Ponce de Leon
Hi Isabella.. I don't know why your tennis status update was deleted. If it was not commercial and in english then it should not have been deleted. Did you post it at Twitter or Facebook? It might have been a technical issue that caused a problem with the synchronization. There are no privileged posters in the community and we try our best to treat everyone equally. You and everyone else in the community can help by officially reporting inappropriate posts which we will address one by one and take appropriate action. These are logged actions that the team cannot miss as we see them when we sign onto the forum. This is the same as bug reports - we will miss the reports posted in topics and can only officially address the reports submitted through the Bug Reporter. Just for info, the top 3 reporters have reported 541, 314, and 208 postings. Kind regards, , osCommerce
♥Biancoblu
Hi Harald Thanks for replying. I posted the tennis update here, not through facebook or twitter, I guess it must have been deleted by mistake then. To be honest I have rarely used the report button, I will make sure to use it from now on. ~ Don't mistake my kindness for weakness ~
Guest
Isabella, <my personal opinion> This forum is for anyone who wishes to use it, it is in ENGLISH as there are other osCommerce forums in other languages if you wish to seek them out. The post you referenced about my response to your inquiry was not intended to be offensive but you took offense to it. My post was to identify that the majority of members here post in English and therefore, those who require help should also post in English if they wish to receive a timely response. For future reference, if you wish to use your native language you can access the French osCommerce forum here: http://www.oscommerce-fr.info/forum/ As for status updates, many other members have had their updates deleted as well. I don't feel that any update that is not directly related to osCommerce should be posted. In fact, I don't think the option to have Facebook or Twitter connections should be present as most people don't post osCommerce related news in their Facebook or Twitter accounts, but again that is my personal opinion. I do not moderate this forum. So, as you can see there is no favoritism here. I, and everyone else have to follow the forum rules......albeit they are fluid sometimes and open to interpretation, everyone follows them. Harald, sorry to step into this thread but the reference Isabella made was to my post. Chris
♥Biancoblu
Chris <my personal opinion> thanks for posting a link to the French community, but I have no intention of leaving this forum, as you know I am fluent in 5 languages including English therefore I have no problem either reading or writing in this forum. Again you are confusing posts and status updates, I have never said posts should be in languages other than English (read back on my posts please). I however see no problem with a status update being in a foreign language. Do people ask for help through their status updates? I don't think so. Let's face it, status updates are just a gadget, they're not contributing to the community nor claiming to help anyone. If you post a quote by Gandhi in your status update, does it do much harm for me to post one in French by Albert Camus? I think not. Does it do much harm if I post Christmas wishes in various languages? Again, I think not. Lastly, I never took offense at your post, I simply noted how bothered and frustrated you were by foreign languages. ~ Don't mistake my kindness for weakness ~
