starmedia
Hi there. Our site is running OSCommerce 1.26 and our host found there was an exploit and recommended we do an upgrade. I have backed everything up (files/db) but I want to be sure that doing the upgrade will not destroy the site. what version is safe for us to upgrade to? and.. Is there an automatic upgrade (like wordpress)? Thanks

starmedia
Thanks for the swift reply. Can you tell me if there is any confirmation that there is a patch for an exploit which allows hackers to upload a PHP file when adding an image and then executing that file? (this was what my hosting company spent 20 hours investigating and discovering). Thanks
starmedia
Can I just copy the files in the catalog into my directory to upgrade or will that wipe things out? I've never used OSCommerce before. I'm doing this for a client.

There are enough fixes here to solve your problem on a 2.2 install without having to upgrade your store to V2.3.1, which won't be easy unless you intend getting a professional to do that for you. Thanks for the reply. I am a developer (aka professional) but this is a past client of ours that I have no familiarity with (nor do I have experience with OSCommerce). Essentially I don't have much time to invest in fixing this issue but I am capable of doing it. I'm looking for the best way to do so. Should I ... backup database, save theme, scrape site and install new version? Is the DB from 1.26 compatible with 3.*? I am positive this site is running 1.26 Thanks
