Omen1975
Hi Guys, Im new to building a website and would like to know more on the process. I am currently looking into a hosted shopping cart but seems quite expensive doing it that way. All im after is a cart like the oscommerce demostation but later have a coupon/discount feature aswell? This is what I have learned.... I will need a domain name first, then a host, then a shopping cart? am I correct? I am looking at using crazydomains.com.au for my domain registration and hosting, will I be able to use the oscommerce cart? Any help appreciated. Cheers Damien
Guest
Damien, That hosting provider seems to offer everything you would need for your osCommerce store. I would suggest choosing Linux hosting and PHP 5.3 if offered. (PHP 5.2 is not) Once you obtain your domain name and hosting account, simply download the osCommerce software here http://www.oscommerce.com/solutions/downloads The, after your initial installation and configuration if you want to add a discount coupon contribution, you can look here: http://addons.oscommerce.com/category?search=discount+coupon&v=23 Welcome to the forum and good luck. Omen1975
Thanks Chris, When signing up the domain name it asks you for different add on options, Do I need this DNS upgrade? "Add more options to your domain The DNS Upgrade is an addon to your domain name which includes Unlimited email forwarding - forward [email protected] to another email address, Domain redirection and many extra DNS tools, buying you time to get your site up and running, POPULAR UPGRADE. Only $12 SAVE $6" Also has upgrades to hosting, Premium Email Protection $35 My Web Stats $99 SSL Certificate $49 What do I need? Guest
Damien, None of those options affect the operation of osCommerce, they are just features to your hosting account. I would choose an SSL and an email plan if it were my website. Chris
