restoring from backup

Oh no! I had an attack on my old version OScommerce store, but luckily I had several older backups that are still clean. I installed the latest version of OScommerce and now am ready to restore from an old backup (created through the OScommerce admin). I went to that screen on the new OScommerce window. It looked like it updated correctly, but there is no change to my site. It still has the sample products, but not all of the products from my site.

Help!

Dolf,

If you are trying to directly import a database backup from RC2a and have updated to v2.3.1, you will have to modify some of the tables and fields in the backup to make it compatible with the new database structure of v2.3.1.

Ok. thanks for the response.

Is there a guide somewhere on how to do that?

I found this thread, which was somewhat helpful as well:

http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/370853-restoring-22-database-into-231/

I looked at both DB next to each other, copied in parts from my old to the new, uploaded and still no dice.

All I really want to save is the products_description entries. I have hundreds of those. I don't even really care about the rest. Can someone give me guidance on how to save those from my 2.2 backup?

Ok, I'm still learning here. I'd love a little help.

I was able to affect a change working through my phpMyAdmin. If I made little changes to the entries there (under product_description) they showed up in the admin and on the website.

Then I was also able to add a few entries with the "Import" tab on phpMyAdmin. I had to modify the code a little, deleting a few things here and there. But these new entries show up in phpMyAdmin, but not in the admin of OScommerce or on the website.

What am I missing! Please help! I can't believe it's so difficult to upgrade versions.

What about installing 2.2, restoring from my back up, then doing an update. Will that work?
