Unabomber
http://www.wallliner.com/catalog/install/i...tall.php?step=5 shows me that I am either over my head and should give up, or this program was designed for people who didn't ride the short bus like me. So which is it?
Unabomber
Since you can't edit in this crappy forum, the error I get is: osCommerce Open Source E-Commerce Solutions New Install Step 2: osCommerce Configuration Warning: fopen("/home/wallli2/public_html/catalog/admin/includes/configure.php", "w") - No such file or directory in /home/wallli2/public_html/catalog/install/templates/pages/install_5.php on line 164 Warning: fputs(): supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /home/wallli2/public_html/catalog/install/templates/pages/install_5.php on line 165 Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /home/wallli2/public_html/catalog/install/templates/pages/install_5.php on line 166 The configuration was successful! sgtpepper
I have to say, this forum is VERY helpful. Not "crappy".....remember this is an open source project and the open source community requires cooperation and sharing of ideas. Please, show the forum a little more respect than this...how else do you expect to get help? Are Oompa-Loompa's asexual?

Guest
 i was going to reply, but figured i would not start a flame war on this read the documentation at www.oscdox.com and as stated above, make certain that you have set the required permissions to various files
mattice
The reason you can not edit posts is simple: Synchronisation with the mailing list. Besides editing posts in technical forums will result in non-logic solutions.... Unabomber
777ing both configure files worked I guess? I was using the guide, but my reading skills obviously are lacking. I didn't see that you have to 777 it in both locations. Follow up though.... I clicked on Catalog, it is working. There are two warnings at the top that I believe are dealt with in the install instructions. I don't see this being a problem, only something I have to fix further on in the instructions. I clicked on Administration Tool and get a 404. According to the http://guide.oscdox.com/ instructions I should test these, which I did, but it makes no mention of 404. Possible clues anyone? BTW, I am NOT hating on this forum, so far I really like it. Full of helpful folks is what I am seeing here. I AM hating on the lack of edit capability. I am a member of far too many forums, and this is the first I have seen with no edit feature. Strange, but I can deal with it I guess. My comment was towards features, NOT personnel. Guest
sounds like a possible link issue in the config file have you verified the path links?
sgtpepper
I have other products in the store that are working fine...of course, they have images....the paths seem fine. Are Oompa-Loompa's asexual?

Unabomber
Can you be a little more specific for me as far as the paths? Are you talking about the paths in the previous steps or something inside of the config.php file itself? More background.....during the install process it refers to where the database is located. I named a database in MySQL, but it is blank and frankly, I have no clue about SQL databases. I figured that there would be some sort of default loaded and then I could edit from there. I made a blank database named "inventory" and was wondering if this might be part of the cause. Thought I would mention this as it may be an issue in some way. As far as the install goes, I am fairly sure all the paths are OK. All the defaults I kept and the only issue I had was the database server name, which "localhost" ended up working. This was handled by someone here on the board. The only other inputs you have are username and password. This problem is really driving me nuts because up to this point, it requires so little input, but is apparently screwing up. At this stage in the game I am about to say to heck with it and get some paid advice. Would be nice if there was a section in this forum for that! Guest
i am refering to the paths in the config file when you did the install, it asked for the location of the db - i assume you entered localhost, then you entered a name for the db, and entered your login and password for access you also had an option to import sample data for the sample store - if you did not do that then the db would be blank - whether there is or is not data in the db will not affect anything other than displayed information now when you say a blank db, you mean blank in terms of no data, or blank in terms of no tables? did you go thru the docs on oscdox.com? don't get frustrated - we all started in the same place you are and over time got more and more familiar and knowledgeable about it all
Unabomber
I have given up on this for a few days. I have re-read http://guide.oscdox.com/ and did a fresh install. I am still having the same problems, I am at step 5 (http://wallliner.com/catalog/install/install.php?step=5) and the admin tool doesn't work. I have no database. I set one up through MySQL through. By set one up I mean that I have a username and a database name and nothing else. I don't even know how to use MySQL. I know how to do a database with Excel, but don't know where/how to stick it into MySQL. Is this whole thing something I can even do??? I am doing this project for a small wallpaper company at no cost and am starting to wonder wether I should just tell this guy to I can't do it. I have experience with php forums, and html, but this stuff is killing me!
Mark1
Step by step instructions on the installation of this software do not really exist. A couple of attempts have been made to give a general help, but as a novice I found I could not set my cart up with them. I can direct you towards a few people who can help you (at a nominal cost) install a cart. I am sure there are people on this forum that might even do it for free. I find a lot of people are willing to help here, and some are very generous with their time. I would say that before you allow yourself to become too frustrated, get help with this. The shopping cart you will end up with is worth taking the time and possibly spending a little money ($20.00) on. Mark
Guest
once you have started using it for a while you will be amazed what you can do with it when you run the install program, are you putting in all the correc information for both the store and admin folders (whatever you may have named them) - there is a 'flaw' in the install program where it defaults to creating the admin folder inside the catalog folder (which I don't like, but thats my problem...) i did not know php before starting with this cart, and now I can generally recreate an entire site in about 8 hours (as was demonstrated last night when both my main machine and backup machine both died and I had to play beat the clock to get the store back online - thankfully i was able to recover the database, but the site itself was lost...) now I am going to keep 3 backup copies
