HELP!

Hi all, Im a newbee

Having had my website for about 4 years (Os commerce of course), my web developer has now decided he wants me off his server (now has other intersts not web developing)and given me a new hosting service to go with.

Ok fine no probs but the transfer wasn't so smooth!!

Firstly my website had global settings switched on and due to security I couldn't have them switched on. Sooo no website

After weeks, (of me pushing) it was fixed. Now the database can't be transfered. It was saying can not access database server. He has all the relevant details to make the change over but he says he doesn't know how. <_<

My problem is this. He doesn't seem to want to do the job. I now have a very budget looking front page up (that has all that has been managed so far) with no access to any products and im left in the lurch.

Losing money and why should I try and find someone else and pay for work that was of not my own doing??

Any much appreciated suggestions??

EXTREMELY frustrating situation that has been going on for er.....a couple of months now. :'(

Jo,

If your site is that old (you didn't mention the version) it should be updated for security purposes anyway. I wouldn't invest any money into the website, I would invest into a new, stronger website with more features and NO compatibility issues.

Hi

Thanks for the reply,

I can not access the admin panel so I can not remember the version. It is old yes, and upgrading is something I have been thinking about but I need to be up and running firstly then move on to upgrading.

I do not want to be starting from the beginning just yet. It isn't viable.

Someone told me that he did not update the .HT access file.

Jo,

Let's start with this: Use your FTP client to access the server and download the .htaccess file found in the stores root. Open the file with a text editor and copy and post the file contents here so we can see it.

Hi Chris

Well I managed to do it though (and the hosting people confirmed) there is no .htaccess file.

Apparently he can create one and send it to me to upload it. GREAT!! Another thing for me to try and get him to do.

Seriously frustrated.
