Guest
I am trying to add pictures to my webstore but they dont show just a blank space. Do i have to upload pics by ftp and then put a link where it asks for url? Does the browse picture just choose the file e.g. house.bmp and the url let it know where the products are? toolcrazy
Does the browse picture just choose the file e.g. house.bmp and the url let it know where the products are? You can't just enter the URL to your pic. You have to find it on your hard drive with the browse button and then OSC will upload it to your web site. There is no other way to do it. If you just enter the URL into the space it won't enter that info into the database. That is why you are getting just a white space for the image. I forgot about the enter url field. Steve -------------------------
Guest
Yes i did use the browse button to find the picture but the prev is blank with a red cross. Is it the format, what format should the pics be in?
toolcrazy
I believe that most browsers support JPG JPEG PNG BMP GIF , I think there is one or two more, but can't remember. You might try and FTP your image to the image dir and see if that fixes it. If it does, then OSC isn't uploading and that is a server setting. Then try and set the permissions of the image dir to 777. See if that helps. Steve -------------------------
loxly
For some reason known only to the server gods my image directory does not function correctly when set to 777 so I don't have it set to writeable. That is part of the reason that I ftp them. I would not use bmp for product images, the files are not very compressed. The best format to use is jpg for photographs and gif for line art and text images. I don't know enough about png to comment. Toolman, 30 lashes with a wet noodle for giving out inaccurate info :-) I also have my images sorted into directories, and you can enter the /directory/image-name.jpg and it finds the files. It will tell you in the admin that it doesn't find the file or the upload was unsuccessful, just ignore that. Thank you, I needed that.  But, it wasn't total inaccurate, just partialy. Oh, well, it's been a long day. spade
I have set my images folder with chmod to 777. When I let osCommerce upload the images they are set to 600, which prevents them from being displayed. I can work around it, but am hoping for a permanent solution... spade
Based on the sample structure I was expecting that images are automatically uploaded in folders that corespond to the category structure, but instead they are all placed into the same folder. Is that normal? If I were to create that structure myself, how would I tell it were to find the image, i.e. images/canaon/ae1.gif? It seems it always looks for the images in /images/
toolcrazy
There is a fix somewhere on this forum, I've never read the actual post, but I've read another post stating that there was. I see you delema, it will be a pain to keep chmod you images everytime you upload them. Good Luck. Steve -------------------------

There is a lesson at: http://wiki.oscommerce.com If you want to upload to sub dir. The only way I know of, otherwise, is manually edit the database by hand. Guest
I Wouldnt mind if i could get the images on the server but the problem starts with the preview, the is a red x and no picture. So this is before i try to upload this is just the preview.
loxly
When you upload via ftp the pics don't always show in admin, but they are there. I create subdirs and upload to them via ftp, then use easypopulate to put the locations in the database. I have several thousand images and this is the most efficient way to work for me. If I loaded them through the admin, Version OSC Diamond 2005 would be out :) [no external urls in signatures please, kthanks]

Just change the last "" to "/" and OSC knows what to do! Of course that works best for few images...
spade
A solution to this strange behavior can be found at http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/viewtopic.php...p=110427#110427
spade
Above message was in reply to my earlier post about the problem with the permissions. BTW: This BBS is able to support editing of posts one owns. Is this turned off globally or can I turn it on somehow?
