PyroWebDweeb
I didn’t see any forum for “New Users / Introductions” so I figured I would post this here… Some background: I have been doing “back end” stuff since I ran my own BBS back in the late 80’s/into the 90’s off an Amiga and later a ‘386 with QEMM and DESQview. In mid ’96 I shut down the BBS and went to work part time for an ISP doing user technical support and lightweight server maintenance. (I have a regular job in a totally unrelated field) I have experience with basically all popular OS’s and have run my own Linux servers, although as more and more stuff was added began to rely on the help of more talented friends to make sure everything worked right and was secure. I basically quit doing anything related to writing code back during the transition from HTML 3.2 to 4.0. While I understand (conceptually) how stuff all comes together and can do some basic stuff mostly I rely on back-end admin interfaces for things like forums I admin/moderate and the like. I can and have used the basic unix tools like grep/sed/awk, vi, compiled my own kernels (although as it became harder and harder to get them to fit into the footprint now rely on precompiled ones), and written shell scripts and basic web pages (again, 3.2 but not anything past that). I have installed and configured MTA’s and SQL DB (PostgreSQL and MySQL), but am very weak in them and mostly rely on lots of reading and help from others to stumble my way through. I have just taken over management of a website for a fireworks retailer. This is hosted by a large, well known nationwide provider and uses osCommerce Online Merchant v2.2 RC2a and PHP 5.2.14 (Zend: 2.2.0). I have about a million questions, some of which are likely pretty basic. I expect that they are best dealt with in individual threads, so that it going to be how I deal with them. Anyway, thanks in advance to the community for your help.
