Migla
If I set up a osCommerce store (community edition) and only take Google Checkout/Paypal/Amazon payments, would my site be PCI compliant? And besides the slightly higher fees for using those services, are there any drawbacks to doing that? Thanks
web-project
would my site be PCI compliant? it's not applicable, as you don't store or process any CC details on your website. Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here. As for contribution database it's located here! 8 people out of 10 don't bother to read installation manuals. I can recommend: if you can't read the installation manual, don't bother to install any contribution yourself. Thanks Taking the credit card would be PCI compliant but that may not be enough to qualify your site as so. It depends upon who is doing the scan and what your bank will accept. I don't see an advantage in offering all three but there's no big disadvantage to it either, that I can think of. Paypal, and possibly the others, will offer more services if you have a high sales volume so you would probably lose that by offerring all three, but that is a minor point. Sorry, I meant are there disadvantages to only taking one of the three, as opposed to processing credit cards myself? Thanks
MrPhil
It's tremendously expensive to attain certification as PCI-DSS compliant, so you are allowed to handle credit card numbers yourself on your site. Unless you have a huge sales volume, it's generally more cost effective to use a third party payment processor such as PayPal. You pay a little more per transaction, but then you're relieved of the burden of all the extra site security measures you don't have to take. Generally, just pick one service you like (and operates everywhere that you plan to sell to), but there's no reason you can't offer multiple payment services.
