RMD27 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Hi, I want to change this field from a date to a text field. For example, instead of it stating "28th of February 2011" - I want it to say "24-48 hours" (or whatever text I enter). How do I do that???
germ Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Not hard to do if you want the same message all the time for everything. What version of osC 2.2 or 2.3? If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you. RMD27 Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Not hard to do if you want the same message all the time for everything. What version of osC 2.2 or 2.3? Hello, No I dont want the same message for all the products. I want it to work just as it does now with a date but instead of the field only taking a date I want it to take text. At the moment I want to put how long it will take to deliver to the customers door from the time of ordering, so I want to be able to put in anything I want in this field, for example 24-48hours, or maybe 10-15days, etc, basically I want it to be a text field and not a date field There is the "This product will be in stock field" and the "this product was added on the" field. I dont use these at the moment but I could use them if they would accept text like the product title field for example. I have looked at the add product field contributions but they have too many changes for my liking. I would much prefer to use field that already exist if the format of the field can be changed I use Easy Populate (awesome contribution) to add products, I want to be able to put 24-48hours in the "date expected" field so I can change this in bulk quickly and/or change a few select products without having to do it through the admin which would be next to impossible for large numbers of products. I am using V2.2 RC2

RMD27 Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 Count me out. Because its difficult to do?
RMD27 Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 I found this post which kind of looks like a much much more straight forward way of adding a field http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/topic/350947-add-mini-descriptions-to-product-listings/ Bearing in mind I am not interested in entering the info through the admin (so I don't need/want that functionality), and that I only want this info to appear in the product_info.php, is there an easy way to bolt this mini_descrip into Easy Populate?

(Assuming you are using Easy Populate - an awesome contribution by some super clever people!) I gave up on changing the format of the date expected field so I added a completely new field. The link above gives excellent instructions to easily add the field to the database. And Easy Populate (EP) actually gives detailed instructions on how to add extra fields to the catalog. Literally you just have to change one line in the EP code, and add the relevant code for the new field to product_info.php (2 small changes). In my case just duplicate the incidences of product_description for the new field and Bob's your uncle. You can't edit the extra field through the admin but you can up and download the field through EP which some might say is easier.
