Hello.

Iam looking for a shopping cart solution for a website that sells only 5 products. No categories, nothing fancy. I want people to buy in 3 steps.

Step 1. Pictures and Info about the 5 products. From here people can add to cart and checkout.

Step 2. Enter billing information. No need to register or keep an account.

Step 3. Confirm and send an invoice in PDF. (PDF invoice is optional)

Thats all I need.. can I do this with OScommerce ? If not anybody know something I can use?

Daniel,

Yes, you can configure osCommerce for very basic operation, however it is capable of so much more. You may want to just look at an HTML page with PayPal buttons as an alternative to a shopping cart.

Chris,

Thanks for your quick reply. I have reviewed "paypal buttons" but giving my clients to navigate on an extrenal domain sounds unpleasant.

You already said that oscommerce can be configured in a minimal style. The new question is can I use PayPals standard account (not web pro) to integrate with oscommerce so that users are never transferred to paypals website and everything is done through oscommerce but processed by paypal ?

Thanks

Daniel,

To keep customers on the website, you would have to subscribe to WPP as Paypal Standard and PayPal express both take the customer to the PayPal Website.

Daniel, I think you are confusing two things. The "PayPal buttons" that Chris suggested are your choice of "Buy Now" buttons or a very simple cart managed by PayPal. The first is just HTML code to drop in your page, and I'm not sure how the second is implemented. Either way, your customer will be sent to the PayPal site to carry out the payment. If you stay with osCommerce, you can specify PayPal as your payment service (one of several, or the only one). There are several PayPal plans to choose from. Some take your customer to the PayPal site to carry out payment. One does everything on your site. Be aware that if you choose the latter method, it's more expensive and your site must meet certain "PCI-DSS" security standards (quite expensive to attain), because you will be handling customer credit card information on your site. Judging from your comments about the number of items you're selling, and the desire for a "minimalist" site, unless they're expensive cars or diamond tiaras, you ain't gonna make enough on them to pay for the extra costs. What's wrong with sending customers offsite to make their payment? PayPal is a well known and trusted brand in the online world, and customers may be more willing to open their wallets than if some site they've never seen before is asking them to type in their credit card numbers. Besides, what "navigating" offsite do they have to do? They're taken to the PayPal page, they enter their information, and they're returned to your site.
