Website database wrecked

I installed OS Commerce on my website and logged in as the Admin. I previously had my website set up with a database and the web pages defined with PHP and MySQL. When I installed OS Commerce, I gave it a different directory to set up the catalog of products. Then, I started to try to set it up with my products and so. My website is hosted with iPage.com. From their website, you can go into some interface tool to set up the products for the catalog for OS Commerce. I went in to the program, entered a new "category" called "Navajo Rugs". I was thinking of adding a new product, but realized I would have to re-enter all of my products into this new database file. So, I hesitated and didn't do anything else. I got out of that program and tried to look at the database files. But, first I couldn't even find my other database file (that I had set up previously) and then it showed up. But, now every time you look at a page on my website, and click on a link that would bring up the products from the database file, it comes up with an error message that it can't get the CategoryID. That is the variable that is set up already in my php files throughout my website. I'm not sure why it is now messed up. That I know of, the database file arranged by OS Commerce shouldn't even be accessed yet from any page on my website because I haven't changed any of the files yet.

Can someone please help!!!

Rita,

You can enter products into osCommerce one of three ways (three as far as I know).

1) Enter the products manually using the store admin area.

2) Import a compatible SQL dump using phpmyadmin

3) Use Easy Populate to import a properly formatted CSV file of your products.

Tip: The ipage.com interface, is NOT one of the three above.

Hi Chris,

Thanks so much for your response. I went back and UN-installed OS Commerce, but my website is still messed up. I've tried to go back and upload older versions of the original files I had, but so far nothing has worked. I had a database file set up with my products listed in it according to a catageory number (CategoryID). Now, no matter what, it can't seem to find the "CategoryID". I'm not sure what else to check with it.

Any ideas?

Rita

Here's an old BASIC command: REDO FROM START

Look's like you have your stuff completely mixed up. So I would just erase everything: catalog database and files, and start over with a clean sheet. If that doesn't work, get some professional help to look into the problem (at a fixed rate, not payed by the hour) or consider to start over with a new hosting account were none af the settings have been screwed.

I do and do not agree with Dunweb: those three methods are for the novice users, but I've already developed customized importers for clients of mine ;-)

Good luck!

Dirk,

The OP has 3 posts total, so my assumption is she is a novice user, hence my reply was in 'laymans' terms.

Hey Chris,

I was just pulling your leg, of course your answer was completely correct and to-the-point ;-)

Keep up the good work!

D.
