LINUX OR WIN 2K and which add ons are the best?

IS OSCOMMERCE MEANT FOR LINUX?

I have a few questions:

 

1. Can someone explain the merchant account / gateway things again to me?

 

2. I need to find some reliable php firms who will not gauge me on the price. Any recommendations? preferably in california...

 

3. I also need to know what i am getting myself into if i go the linux route, i have no experience with linux, and if i install oscommerce on a linux box, what does this mean to me as far as admin capabilties, and intergation with quickbooks?

 

4. Do you know which addons are the best or the most requested? I will be needing paypal, plus a merchant account, in both product and subscription based shopping cart, plus chat, plus ad banner rotation system...

This is really a question for a Linux forum... I believe there is a wrapper available that allows you to run Windows apps under Linux... I spotted this somewhere on the Mandrake website
